Our mission is to provide flexible, student-centered, team-based
services with a mental health focus to students with severe
emotional/behavioral disorders.
Community Based Program for Social Development (PSD) is a part
of the special education umbrella of Focus Beyond services. Focus
Beyond provides administrative support and guidance to all transition
students and transition programs in the Saint Paul Public Schools.
The focus of this transition program is to provide hands-on,
community-based learning experiences. School and support staff provide
service in the community and on-site.
The staff-to-student
ratio is approximately 10:1. Each student has a school case manager who
is licensed in special education and a primary worker to aide and
assist the student in carrying out individual goals and objectives.
Staff work as a team to provide support on-site and in the community.
Community
Based PSD serves students ages 16-21, whose needs are focused on the
areas of transition, and whose IEP teams have determined this to be an
appropriate placement. Community Based PSD utilizes both on- and
off-site instruction, flexible programming and service hours, small
group support and instruction, and career and technical guidance and
placement to help learners develop the necessary skills to become
functional independent adults in the community.
