 Transition Resources Visually Impaired Learners

Visually impaired students have a variety of unique transition needs including braille and assistive technology. A Vision/Vocational Teacher is available to work with all visually impaired students over the age of 14.

Transition goals/objectives are developed around the five areas of transition with the necessary adaptations to compensate for the visual loss. The Vocational Teacher works with the IEP team in helping students meet these transition goals/objectives.

A variety of opportunities are available such as job shadowing, a mentor program and summer work experiences. Group meetings are also held which cover various topics ranging from basic work/interview skills to personal hygiene/grooming to social interactions.

All visually impaired students are also eligible for other Saint Paul Public Schools Transition programs such as those offered by Focus Beyond.
